Purchasing parts for you car

Car PartsBefore heading out and buying any specified part for your car, here is the list of things that you need to know before doing so.

1. Vehicle make(Mazda, Honda, etc)

2. Vehicle model(RX-8, Accord, etc)

3. Year of manufacture(1992, 1985, etc)

4. Number of cylinders and type of arrangement(V6, In-line 4, Flat 4, etc)

5. Engine displacement(2000 cc, 40 cubic inches, etc)

6. Kind of fuel system(fuel injected or carbureted)

7. Whether the car has an air-conditioner

8. Type of transmission whether manual or automatic.

A ridiculous list. If you need to be told that you need to know what vehicle your part is for, I suggest you don’t try to repair it!

Not to mention that you don’t need to know if you have A/C when buying a taillight (just a small example of what’s wrong here).

yes..agreed..but this list is to give the vendor a clear idea of which part you want..different variants of the same model might be present, and sometimes vendors who are new to the business would make an error that might lead to several problems..so its better to be on the safer side and take all the important details pertaining to the car before buying spares and be assured that nothing would go wrong..anyways thanks for the comment Green..

Hi, good post, its also very usefull to have you VIN number at hand when purchasing parts for your car, so the sales man can use it on the EPC´s (electronic part catalog) and cant make mistakes, saving you time and money.

VIN is always important mainly due to mid year parts changes. Second production date of the vehicle which is found on the VIN plate on the drives door or door piller. Sometimes this is more important than the VIN.
